The General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, William Folorunso Kumuyi, has dismissed speculation that he plans to hand over the leadership of the church to any of his biological children.
Speaking during a church service, Kumuyi said the ministry does not belong to him and therefore cannot be passed on to a family member. His remarks came amid discussions that surfaced on Wednesday over who could eventually succeed him as leader of the church.
The cleric explained that some people had wondered whether he would choose one of his sons to take over the ministry after his time as General Superintendent. He, however, maintained that leadership in the church should be determined by God's direction rather than family ties.
Kumuyi stated that the church belongs to Jesus Christ and should not be treated as a personal property that can be inherited by relatives. He said no individual has the authority to transfer ownership or leadership of the church to a son simply because of family connections.
He also pointed to examples from the Bible, noting that key Christian figures such as Peter, Paul and John did not hand over the church to their children.
The pastor's comments were aimed at addressing the growing speculation surrounding the future leadership of the church and reaffirming that succession in the ministry would not be based on family lineage.
