Wike Takes Peter Obi To The Cleaners, Labels Him A "Food Is Ready" Politician.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday, June 1, took aim at former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing him as a “food is ready” politician who avoids difficult challenges.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, Wike questioned Obi’s approach to governance, claiming the former Anambra State governor tends to seek the easiest political paths rather than confronting Nigeria’s complex national problems directly.

The minister’s comments were prompted by recent pledges from Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections, to boost Nigeria’s electricity generation and distribution capacity to 10,000 megawatts.

Wike dismissed the feasibility of Obi’s promises, insisting that effective leadership demands resilience and a willingness to tackle systemic challenges rather than merely making political pledges.

“Peter Obi likes food is ready, mama put. I don’t want struggling,” Wike said, implying that Obi favors situations where problems have already been solved instead of addressing the hard work required to rehabilitate Nigeria’s struggling infrastructure.

The minister emphasized that anyone aspiring to lead a country of over 200 million people must demonstrate the capacity to face adversity rather than retreating from political or administrative obstacles.

“In this country, there are challenges. You must have the capacity to face those challenges. Face the challenges you have; that’s what makes you a leader, that’s what makes you a man. Leadership is not dashing you something,” Wike added.

Wike’s remarks are the latest in a series of political exchanges as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, highlighting the intensifying debates over leadership credibility and the ability to manage the nation’s enduring economic and infrastructural issues.
