Abacha Died During Intimate Moment, Ex-DSS Officer Claims.

A former senior officer of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, has made fresh claims about the circumstances surrounding the death of former military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, in 1998.

Amachree revealed the details in his memoir titled DSS @40: My Journey Behind the Shield, where he gave his account of events that happened before Abacha died on June 8, 1998.

According to the former DSS official, Abacha passed away at the Aso Rock Guest House during an intimate moment involving a pharmacist who was the younger sister of a woman believed to be close to him.

He claimed that Abacha’s companion, an Igbo woman whose identity was not disclosed, arrived at the guest house in the early hours of June 8, 1998, alongside her younger sister, who was in Abuja for a professional conference.

Amachree said the younger woman remained with Abacha after her sister returned to her hotel, adding that the former military leader later became unresponsive.

He stated that the woman noticed something was wrong when Abacha stopped responding and she could not detect any signs of life.

The ex-DSS officer said the woman later left the residence and travelled to Lagos before security authorities became aware of what had happened.

Amachree further disclosed that his team later found and questioned the pharmacist over the incident. He said the woman denied any involvement in Abacha’s death during questioning.

He claimed that after hearing her explanation, he informed senior officials and she was taken back to Abuja.

The former DSS officer said his investigation led him to believe that Abacha’s death was caused by a sudden heart-related incident during the encounter, dismissing other claims that have surrounded the circumstances of the former leader’s death.

Abacha governed Nigeria from November 1993 until his death in June 1998. His sudden passing at the age of 54 has continued to attract public debate, with various theories emerging over the years about the cause of his death.
