Army Appoints New Commander For 3 Division In Jos.

The Nigerian Army has carried out a change of leadership at the Headquarters of 3 Division in Jos, with Major General Folusho Oyinlola handing over as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven to Major General Maxwell Dangana.

The handover ceremony took place on Friday at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos, where the outgoing commander reviewed his time in office and the incoming commander outlined his plans for the Division.

Oyinlola said the progress made during his tenure was achieved through teamwork, professionalism and the commitment of officers and soldiers. He stated that the Division improved intelligence-based operations, strengthened operational planning and maintained pressure on criminal groups while working closely with other security agencies.

He credited the support of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff and other security organisations for helping the Division carry out its operations successfully. He also said cooperation among the military and other security agencies played a major role in improving security across the Joint Operations Area.

The outgoing commander said the Division also focused on non-military efforts by engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth and women groups, as well as community leaders to build trust and encourage the sharing of useful information.

According to him, medical outreach programmes, educational support, environmental sanitation campaigns, sporting activities and other civil-military programmes helped strengthen the relationship between the Army and host communities.

Oyinlola added that attention was given to training, leadership development, discipline, operational readiness, innovation and the welfare of personnel. He also praised journalists for responsible reporting and thanked the governments and people of Plateau State and other states within the Joint Operations Area, alongside traditional institutions, religious leaders and civil society groups, for supporting the Division during his stay.

He has now been posted to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, where he will serve as Dean of the Faculty of Combat Arms and Research. He urged officers and soldiers to give his successor the same level of support and cooperation they gave him.

In his remarks, Major General Dangana described his new assignment as a major responsibility and promised to build on the achievements already recorded by his predecessor.

He noted that he had previously served in Jos and observed that the security situation had improved over the years. Dangana assured residents that 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven would continue to carry out their duties professionally and remain committed to protecting lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.

The new commander also appealed to officers and soldiers to work closely with him, promising an open leadership style while continuing efforts to improve security in the region.
