A Catholic seminarian, Kelvin Ochai, has been abducted after suspected bandits attacked the residence of a Catholic bishop in the Asa III area of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack happened on Wednesday, while the incident was confirmed on Friday in a statement issued by the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, Rev. Fr. Joseph Aboyi Itodo.
According to the Diocese, the armed men stormed the residence of Bishop Michael Ekwoyi Apochi before abducting the seminarian. The statement did not give further details on how the attack happened or where the victim was taken.
Following the incident, Bishop Apochi appealed to members of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and other well-meaning Nigerians to pray for the safe and quick release of Ochai.
The Diocese also prayed for the safety of the seminarian and all other Nigerians currently being held by kidnappers across the country, expressing hope that they would regain their freedom soon.
As of the time the statement was released, the whereabouts of Ochai remained unknown, while efforts are expected to continue to secure his release.
