The command's spokesperson, DSP Musa Mohammed, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday, July 17, saying the arrests followed a petition alleging the disappearance of several valuable government assets.
The suspects were identified as Wadi Igiran, Nikade Sunday and Azabia Yakie, who serves as the Head of the Productivity Department in the ministry.
According to the police, the missing equipment included a 110 KVA Perkins generator, a forklift, lathe machines, electric filling machines and several other government-owned assets.
Mohammed said the case was reported after officials of the ministry carried out an inspection of an equipment store located within the premises of the Ministry of Transport in Yenagoa.
He explained that the inspection team, which included staff members and the Head of the Human Resources Management Department, discovered that numerous government-owned machines and equipment were missing after the store was opened.
Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to launch a discreet investigation into the alleged theft.
The investigation led to the arrest of the three suspects, who are all employees of the ministry.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crime during interrogation.
Mohammed also disclosed that a forklift allegedly stolen from the ministry has been recovered from a receiver and is currently in the custody of the SCID as investigations continue.
He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting government property, tackling economic and property-related crimes, and ensuring that those responsible for criminal activities are brought to justice.
