Donald Trump Accuses China Of interfering In US Elections.

US President Donald Trump has once again alleged that the 2020 presidential election was compromised, claiming that China obtained the records of 220 million American voters ahead of the election.

Speaking from the White House on Thursday evening, Trump revisited his long-standing assertions that the 2020 election, which he lost to former President Joe Biden, was marred by interference and fraud. His claims come despite numerous court rulings and investigations that found no evidence of widespread electoral fraud.

The US president alleged that China carried out what he described as "the largest compromise of election data in history," claiming Beijing gained access to voter information from 220 million US voter files.

Trump said he would order an investigation into the alleged Chinese interference and promised to declassify intelligence documents that he claimed reveal significant vulnerabilities in America's voting systems.

According to him, voter data in 18 states had been "bought, stolen or hacked by China," while also accusing individuals who allegedly discovered the breach of failing to inform government officials and Congress.

The remarks drew swift criticism from Democrats, who accused the president of attempting to undermine confidence in the country's electoral system ahead of the November midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer dismissed Trump's claims, stating on social media: "Let's be clear – in America, voters choose their leaders, not the other way around."

He added: "Democrats will fight like hell to make sure every American voter can cast their ballot freely, without obstruction or interference from Donald Trump."

Trump's latest allegations also contradict previous findings by US intelligence agencies. A 2021 report by the US National Intelligence Council concluded with "high confidence" that China did not interfere in the 2020 presidential election.

The report stated that China had considered influence operations but ultimately decided against them because it did not believe either election outcome was sufficiently advantageous to justify the risk of being caught.

The president's comments came shortly after the release of a new Washington Post-Ipsos poll showing his approval rating had fallen to 37 per cent, with many Americans expressing concerns about the cost of living and the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
