The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed a letter circulating on social media and claimed to have been written and signed by the former governor, describing it as fake and urging Nigerians to ignore it.
The clarification was made on Thursday in a statement issued by El-Rufai’s son, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, on behalf of the family.
According to the statement, the document, titled Urgent Message and dated July 14, 2026, was falsely linked to El-Rufai.
The family said the letter was not written by him and was never sent to the National Chairman or National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The statement maintained that the document did not come from the former governor and added that both its content and handwriting had no connection with him.
The family also described the circulation of the letter as an attempt to create confusion and division around El-Rufai and his political activities. It said those behind the document were using false information for political purposes and called on the public to disregard the claims contained in it.
The letter, which has been widely shared online, questioned the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC governorship candidate for Kaduna State.
It claimed that Ashiru did not complete the party’s online membership registration before the April 30, 2026 deadline, which it described as a requirement under the party’s constitution.
The document also urged the party’s national and state leaders to look into the matter and review the nomination process.
Despite the allegations contained in the viral letter, El-Rufai’s family insisted that the document was fabricated and had no connection with the former governor.
The family appealed to Nigerians not to be misled by the document, maintaining that it was entirely false and should not be treated as an official communication from El-Rufai.
