The Federal Government has filed a 10-count terrorism-related charge against three men accused of taking part in the abduction of school children and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The charges were filed on Friday before the Federal High Court in Abuja against Abdulrazak Umar, also known as Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid, Yunusa Musa, also known as Yunusa bin Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani, also known as Abu Itisar.
According to the charge, the defendants, who are from Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State, allegedly worked with three other suspects identified as Muhammad Sani, Jibril Mohammed and Ibrahim Khabab between January and May 2026 to carry out the kidnapping of the pupils and their teachers in Oyo State.
The Federal Government accused the three men of conspiracy, kidnapping, concealment of information, terrorism-related offences and unlawful mining.
Court documents stated that the defendants allegedly assisted those behind the abduction and failed to report information that could have helped security agencies stop the operation or arrest those responsible.
The prosecution also alleged that the suspects admitted belonging to Darul Salam, said to be linked to the banned terrorist group Jamaatu Asarul Muslima Fi Bilandis Sudan, also known as Ansaru.
One of the defendants, Abdulrazak Umar, faces additional allegations of providing training and guidance to suspected terrorists through a WhatsApp group known as The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace. He is also accused of using the platform to encourage acts of terrorism.
The final charge accused Umar of carrying out illegal gold mining in streams located in the Chaza area of Suleja Local Government Area between 2024 and 2026 without lawful approval.
A security source said the three suspects are expected to appear before the court next week following the completion of investigations.
The source added that investigations are continuing, with other suspects still under probe as authorities work to conclude the case.
