The directive was announced by the board's Executive Secretary, Abba El-Mustapha, in a statement issued on Saturday, 25 July 2026, by the board's Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sulaiman.
According to the statement, the move forms part of the board's ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with regulations governing the activities of masters of ceremony (MCs) and event centres in Kano State.
The board said it had observed a growing trend of the activities, describing them as a Western cultural practice that has increasingly found its way into wedding celebrations across the state.
"As a result, the board has suspended the practice in order to safeguard the cultural, moral and religious values of the people of Kano State," the statement said.
It added that the decision aligns with the board's mandate to regulate entertainment activities and ensure that public events are conducted in line with the state's cultural and religious values.
While announcing the suspension, the board stressed that it supports positive and responsible forms of entertainment at weddings and other social gatherings, provided they uphold moral standards, respect local culture and conform to religious teachings.
The statement noted that entertainment remains an important part of social ceremonies when conducted within acceptable ethical standards.
The board also directed all event centres, MCs, event planners and other stakeholders involved in organising social events to comply fully with the new directive. It warned that individuals or organisations found violating the suspension could face legal sanctions under the laws enforced by the board.
In addition, residents were urged to support the enforcement of the directive by reporting any event centre or MC found organising or promoting the suspended activities. The board said reports should be made promptly and must relate to incidents occurring within Kano State.
