Kwankwaso Alleges Governors Defecting To APC Expect Presidency To Secure 2027 Election Victories.

Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has alleged that several state governors are defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) because they believe the Presidency will ensure favourable outcomes for them in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview with News Central TV, the former Kano State governor described the country's political atmosphere as troubling, claiming that many politicians no longer place their confidence in the electorate.

According to Kwankwaso, the wave of defections to the APC is being driven by the belief that the ruling party has the backing of security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He argued that desperation among political office holders has led many governors to abandon their parties in the hope of securing electoral advantage ahead of the next general election.

"It is not only the governor of Kano that is in APC. Almost all the governors are of the opinion that they should join the ruling party because they believe that the presidency will write results for them," he said.

Kwankwaso further lamented what he described as a decline in democratic accountability, alleging that some politicians are more focused on political influence than on winning the support of voters.

"We are in a very unfortunate situation in the country where politicians are not too worried about the voters. They believe that the security and INEC are on their sides. Because of desperation, many governors can do anything now," he added.
