The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Ahmed Saleh, over allegations of criminal trespass, attempted rape, theft and impersonation at Malikiyya College of Health Sciences in the Old GRA area of Bauchi.
The Command's spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday, 24 July 2026.According to the police, the incident was reported in the early hours of Thursday after the suspect allegedly gained unlawful access to the female students' hostel at around 2:30 a.m. while dressed in a full police camouflage uniform.
Habib said the suspect claimed to be attached to Garu Security Service, Bauchi, but allegedly entered the hostel without authorisation.
Following a distress call from the college at about 6:30 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer of 'B' Division led a team of detectives and patrol officers to the scene, where Saleh was arrested. The police camouflage uniform he was wearing was recovered as evidence before he was taken into custody for questioning.
During the investigation, police said additional information linked the suspect to a number of theft cases previously reported within the hostel premises.
The Command stated that the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue. He is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned individuals and private security organisations against impersonating law enforcement agencies.
He also reassured residents, particularly students, of the Command's commitment to safeguarding lives and property in and around educational institutions across Bauchi State.
