Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has said the ex-governor will not accept his appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency by President Bola Tinubu.
Isaac made the statement on Tuesday while reacting to reports about the appointment, describing the position as unsuitable for his elder brother.
In a post shared on Facebook, he said Ayo Fayose would reject what he called an insignificant role and advised him to remain calm.
The younger Fayose had earlier expressed disappointment over the appointment in a video shared on his Instagram page, saying his brother deserved a higher position in the federal government.
He questioned why the former governor was not considered for roles such as minister or ambassador, adding that the position given to him did not match his political experience.
Isaac also compared the appointment with that of former presidential aide Reno Omokri, who was appointed ambassador, arguing that Fayose should have received a more senior government role.
He further claimed that the appointment may have been linked to the visit of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to his residence, suggesting that the move was aimed at maintaining political ties with the Fayose family.
Isaac advised his brother to consider giving the position to one of his children, saying the role did not reflect Fayose’s standing as a former two-term governor.
President Tinubu had on Monday appointed Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency alongside other appointments into federal government agencies and commissions.
The appointment came months after Fayose stated that he was not interested in joining the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government despite his relationship with President Tinubu.
The former governor had previously said he preferred to remain outside government service after serving two terms as Ekiti governor, adding that he believed he had contributed enough to public service.
Despite his earlier position, the Presidency announced that the appointment had taken effect immediately.
