"Plateau Governor Mutfwang Apologises To Igbos Over Civil War, Says 'We Were Deceived'".

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has apologised to the Igbo community for the role played by Plateau people during the Nigerian Civil War, describing it as a regrettable chapter in the state's history and calling for lasting reconciliation.

The governor made the remarks while receiving Igbo leaders from the 17 local government areas of Plateau State at the Government House in Jos. Reflecting on the conflict, Mutfwang said Plateau people were "deceived" into participating in the war and stressed the need to move beyond the past in the interest of peace and national unity.

He commended the Igbo community for its significant contributions to Plateau State's economy and development, describing them as an integral part of the state's progress. Mutfwang also noted that Plateau had remained receptive to the Igbo after the civil war and recalled that some victims had previously been compensated for losses suffered during the conflict.

"I apologise to the Igbos so that we can put the past behind us and continue to foster unity. We have become one family because our people were deceived into going to war, and we regret it. We must close that chapter and move forward.

"We must unite. We want the Igbos to regard us as their brothers and sisters, and together we must create an enabling environment where everyone can prosper," the governor said.

Mutfwang also urged Igbo entrepreneurs and business owners operating in Plateau State to invest in the future of local communities by employing and mentoring young people.

"Nigeria is a great country, and no ethnic group has demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit more than the Igbo. I encourage you to replicate that same spirit in Plateau. I also appeal to Igbo business owners to employ and train young Plateau indigenes," he added.
