The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious drug dealer allegedly supplying illicit substances to armed bandits operating in Funtua Local Government Area and neighbouring communities.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Eze, popularly known as "Dunbuje", was apprehended by operatives attached to the Central Police Station in Funtua following an intelligence-led operation.
According to the spokesperson for the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the suspect was arrested at about 5:00 p.m. on July 15 after police operatives acted on credible intelligence and tracked his movements.
Aliyu disclosed that an immediate search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of 500 tablets of D5, an illicit substance allegedly intended for distribution to criminal elements.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the suspect specialised in supplying the drugs to suspected armed bandits and other criminal groups terrorising Funtua and surrounding communities.
The command alleged that the activities of the suspect contributed to sustaining the operations of criminal gangs in the area.
Aliyu said the suspect remains in police custody while investigators intensify efforts to dismantle his distribution network, identify his suppliers and arrest other members of the alleged syndicate.
“The suspect is currently in custody, and investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate and uncover his source of supply. He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the police spokesperson said.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies in Katsina State to disrupt the supply chains and logistics networks supporting banditry and other forms of criminality across the state.
