Police Investigate Suspected Cult Killing After 40-Year-Old Man Is Found Dead In Osogbo.

The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the suspected cult-related killing of a 40-year-old man whose body was found inside a vehicle in Osogbo.

The victim, identified as Abayomi David, was reportedly found dead inside a Toyota Camry with Lagos registration number LND 468 HL along Alatori Road, Olude, Osogbo, in the early hours of Saturday, July 25, 2026.

According to police sources, the incident was reported at about 12:15 a.m., prompting the Divisional Police Officer of Dugbe Division to lead a team of detectives to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers reportedly found the vehicle's engine still running, while nine spent ammunition shells were recovered around the area.

The discovery of the shells has raised suspicions that the victim may have been shot at close range.

Police officers documented the crime scene before evacuating the body to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Mortuary in Osogbo, where it was deposited for autopsy.

The police are investigating the possibility that the killing was linked to cult-related violence, although the exact circumstances surrounding the incident have yet to be established.

The command said efforts had been intensified to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing, while surveillance and monitoring operations were ongoing.
