
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called on the United Nations (UN) and international human rights organisations to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.Makinde made the appeal on Monday while receiving the rescued pupils and teachers at the Government House in Ibadan, describing the May 15 kidnapping as a disturbing incident that requires independent international scrutiny.
The governor said the circumstances surrounding the abduction and subsequent rescue were unusual and serious enough to warrant a thorough investigation by global bodies.
"The circumstances surrounding this incident are sufficiently grave and unusual to warrant independent scrutiny," he said.
Makinde's call follows the release of the abducted pupils and teachers after spending several weeks in captivity.
He noted that an independent investigation would help establish the full facts behind the incident, ensure accountability, and strengthen efforts to prevent similar attacks on schools in the future.
