The Chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Yahaya Abubakar Yari, has declared that his administration will not allow any form of negotiation with bandits operating within the council area.
Yari made the declaration in a video that has been circulating on social media, warning residents against holding discussions or entering into any unofficial peace agreement with armed groups.
He said anyone caught negotiating with bandits would face arrest and prosecution in line with the law, adding that the local government would not tolerate actions capable of encouraging criminal activities.
The council chairman said the policy is part of his administration's support for security agencies working to tackle banditry and other security threats in the area.
According to him, the fight against insecurity should be handled through coordinated operations by security agencies rather than private arrangements with criminal groups.
Yari also said his administration would continue to work closely with relevant authorities to improve security and restore peace across communities in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
His position comes as security agencies and government authorities continue efforts to reduce bandit attacks and other forms of insecurity in different parts of Zamfara State.
