25-Year-Old ISWAP Fighter Surrenders To Nigerian Troops After Eight Months With Group.

A 25-year-old suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighter, Alhaji Ali Gambo Kanuri, has surrendered to Nigerian troops in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State after spending about eight months with the terrorist group.

Gambo, a native of Ngarinna village in Monguno LGA, reportedly joined ISWAP after being introduced to the group by a friend.

Military sources said the 25-year-old later became disillusioned with life within the terrorist organisation and decided to abandon its ranks.

His decision to surrender was reportedly influenced by the difficult conditions faced by members of the group amid sustained military operations targeting terrorist enclaves across the North-East.

Gambo eventually escaped from the area under ISWAP control and made his way to Monguno town, where he surrendered to troops.

He was subsequently taken into custody and transferred to the appropriate authorities for further processing in accordance with established procedures for individuals who voluntarily disengage from terrorist organisations.

The development comes amid continued military pressure on Boko Haram and ISWAP elements operating in Borno State, as security forces intensify clearance and counter-terrorism operations across the North-East.

Authorities have continued to encourage individuals associated with terrorist groups who are willing to abandon violence to surrender peacefully and undergo established screening and rehabilitation processes.
