The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is reviewing the results of the 2026 governorship election as it considers whether to challenge the outcome through the courts.
The party disclosed this on Sunday, August 16, after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the election.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The result gave the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
Adeleke's victory means he will return for a second term as governor of Osun State. He contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.
Following the declaration, the APC said it was examining the results recorded across the 332 wards in the state before deciding on its next move.
The party said the review would help its leadership determine whether there were issues from the election that should be taken before the appropriate legal bodies.
The APC noted that the announcement of election results does not prevent dissatisfied parties from seeking redress. It said the law provides avenues for parties and candidates to challenge aspects of an election through the election tribunal and the higher courts.
The party said it would consult its legal team and consider the advice of its lawyers before deciding whether to file a case under the Electoral Act.
The APC also thanked its members and supporters for their efforts throughout the election and urged them to remain calm while the leadership studies the results.
It called on its supporters to avoid confrontations and not respond to actions or statements that could create tension between rival political groups.
The party also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to protect its members and supporters, alleging that some APC supporters had been subjected to harassment by members of opposing political groups.
The APC said it remained committed to following the law and pursuing any concerns through lawful means. It assured its supporters that the leadership would continue to stand with them as it reviews the outcome of the election.
With Adeleke declared the winner by INEC, attention has now shifted to whether the APC will proceed with a legal challenge after completing its review of the results.
The party is expected to make its next decision after consultations with its lawyers and a detailed assessment of the results from polling units and wards across Osun State.
