A 400-level student of the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA), Nasarawa State, has been killed in an alleged armed robbery attack.
The deceased, identified as Habiba Ummi Lele of the Department of Chemistry, was reportedly shot dead by armed robbers while returning to Lafia after attending her friend’s graduation ceremony at the College of Health and Technology, Keffi.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 1, 2026, when the attackers reportedly opened fire on the vehicle conveying the student, killing her instantly.
Details surrounding the attack remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Following her death, the Executive Chairman of Awe Local Government Council, Umar Abubakar Dan’Akano, and the member representing Awe North Constituency, Hudu A. Hudu Kanje, attended her funeral prayer.
The prayer was held on Sunday at the residence of Hudu Kanje in Kanje and was attended by members of the deceased’s family, friends, community leaders and sympathisers.
Dan’Akano expressed condolences to the family, describing the death as a painful and irreparable loss.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant her Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give her eternal peace in the hereafter.
The council chairman also prayed for strength, patience, comfort and divine guidance for the bereaved family, the people of Kanje and other loved ones mourning the deceased.
The incident has sparked concerns over the safety of commuters and residents along the route, with further details expected as investigations into the attack continue.
