The 41-year-old football star and his 32-year-old long-time partner reportedly tied the knot in a private ceremony last week, a year after Ronaldo proposed with a £3 million engagement ring.
Photos released by Vogue showed the couple exchanging vows in the living room of their luxury home.
Rodríguez said the ceremony was exactly what she had envisioned and admitted that she struggled to hold back her tears during the intimate occasion.
A copy of the couple’s marriage certificate published by Jornal de Notícias reportedly showed that only four witnesses were present at the ceremony.
Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his siblings, Hugo, Elma and Katia, were reportedly not present and allegedly learnt about the wedding shortly before it took place.
Rodríguez explained that although she had once dreamed of having an extravagant wedding, she eventually chose a more private celebration involving Ronaldo and their children.
“When I was a little girl, I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds. And now I’m saying, ‘No. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home.’”
She said the decision reflected how unusual a simple family celebration had become for them, given their access to luxury homes, cars and other material possessions.
Rodríguez also revealed that the couple may consider holding a larger celebration with their extended family and friends in the future.
“In the future we will have a big wedding so we can celebrate with family and friends,” she said.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, said marriage represented a significant new chapter in their relationship.
“Just the fact of being man and wife – you enter a different league,” he said.
The Portuguese footballer also suggested that his playing career could be nearing its end, saying his future plans were largely mapped out and centred on spending more time with his family.
The couple also discussed the possibility of having another child, although Rodríguez jokingly suggested that doing so immediately would be difficult.
Ronaldo responded that he would never completely rule out having more children.
“I never say never. I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” he said.
Following their wedding, Ronaldo and Rodríguez made their first public outing with their children on Saturday night when they attended the Saudi Pro League match between Al-Nassr and Al-Fateh at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh.
