The command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, August 13, 2026, saying two firearms and live ammunition were recovered during the operation.
The suspects were identified as Obiora Nwankwo, 38; Chiadikobi Okoye, 36; Emmanuel Mboko, 42; and Ifeanyi Obi, 37.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested at different locations in Ukwulu and Amichi on Wednesday, August 12, following intelligence gathered under the direction of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in collaboration with Agunechemba security personnel attached to Amichi, Nnewi.
The police said the operatives acted on credible intelligence and moved swiftly to disrupt the alleged criminal plot.
“During the operation, two firearms and live ammunition were also recovered from the suspects,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations, according to the command, indicate that the suspects were allegedly connected to a plan to murder the unnamed businessman and subsequently take possession of his landed properties.
The police, however, said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged conspiracy, identify other persons who may have been involved and determine the specific roles allegedly played by each suspect.
The four suspects remain in police custody and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations, the command said.
The Commissioner of Police said the arrest demonstrated the importance of the command’s renewed intelligence-led policing strategy, which is aimed at identifying criminal threats early, disrupting planned attacks and preventing the loss of lives and property.
