The mission issued the warning in a reminder posted on its official X account on Friday, July 31, stressing that passport photographs must be genuine, recent and accurately reflect the applicant’s current appearance.
Applicants were advised to avoid using AI tools, filters or any form of digital enhancement when preparing passport photographs.
“Reminder! Do NOT use AI or digital editing tools on your passport photo. We will not accept photos that are edited or filtered,” the mission said.
The US Mission further stated that passport photographs must have been taken within the previous six months and should closely resemble the applicant to ensure they can be easily identified by border officials.
“Your photo should be recent (taken within the past six months) and look like you (the TSA or CBP agent must be able to tell it's you),” it added.
The mission warned that applicants who submit digitally enhanced photographs could face significant delays in the processing of their passport applications.
“Submitting a digitally enhanced photo will significantly delay your application,” it said.
Applicants were encouraged to consult the U.S. Department of State’s official passport photo guidelines to ensure their photographs meet the required standards before submitting their applications.
