The witness, identified only as AAA for security reasons, was one of the victims of the Oriire school abduction. She gave evidence on Friday, September 18, during the trial.
Under cross-examination by counsel to the five defendants, Bala Dakum, the witness said the victims were subjected to severe hardship during their captivity, despite the presence of young children, including an 18-month-old child.
She said the abductors provided food at their own convenience and that the victims were left severely traumatised by the experience, both during and after the ordeal.
AAA also acknowledged that the alleged kidnappers used the mobile phones of some victims to contact government officials. However, she said she did not know the telephone numbers of the officials they contacted.
The witness further told the court that following their rescue by security operatives, she was interrogated by personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS), both at the agency’s office and while she was receiving treatment in hospital.
During cross-examination, AAA admitted that three of the five defendants currently standing trial had been with the victims in the forest, while she became acquainted with the other two suspects during interrogation at the DSS office.
She also testified that two teachers, Michael Oyedokun and John Olaleye, were killed at Camp A and Camp B respectively.
However, the witness said she was not present when the two teachers were beheaded and therefore could not identify the specific individuals responsible for their deaths.
Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim adjourned the matter and fixed October 12 and 13 for continuation of the trial.
