The All Progressives Congress in Kebbi State has suspended the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, Alhaji Dahiru Ambursa, from the party with immediate effect over alleged acts of misconduct.
The suspension was contained in a letter signed by the APC Kebbi Central Zonal Vice Chairman, Abubakar Bello, and made available to journalists on Monday.
According to the letter, the decision followed what the party described as “credible reports and findings”, accusing Ambursa of abusing his office and engaging in actions capable of “undermining, ridiculing, embarrassing and causing disunity within the party.”
The party said the alleged conduct was harmful to its unity and public reputation, noting that it breached Article 21 (2)(ii) of the APC Constitution (2022 as amended), which relates to offences bordering on misconduct and anti-party activities.
The letter added: “As part of the disciplinary measures, you are hereby directed to refrain from entering any APC office for the duration of your suspension.”
The APC further warned that any repetition or continuation of the alleged behaviour during the suspension period could attract tougher sanctions, including possible expulsion from the party.
Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, remains one of the most politically strategic local government areas in Kebbi State, and developments within its leadership are often seen as having wider implications for party stability and grassroots mobilisation.
The suspension comes amid rising internal tensions within the APC in Kebbi State, as the party intensifies efforts to enforce discipline among public officeholders ahead of future elections.
In recent months, the state leadership of the party has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to upholding party rules and sanctioning officials found guilty of actions that could weaken internal cohesion or erode public trust.
Efforts to reach Alhaji Ambursa for comments on the development were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
