The Independent National Electoral Commission has declined to recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, pointing to existing court rulings and unresolved legal proceedings surrounding the party’s leadership crisis.
INEC made its position known in a letter dated December 22, 2025, signed by its Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
The commission stated that it could not accede to requests to acknowledge or publish on its website the list of national officers reportedly elected during the party’s National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.
According to INEC, its decision is guided by subsisting court judgments and ongoing litigation connected to the leadership dispute within the PDP.
The electoral body stressed that it would be inappropriate to recognise or validate any factional leadership while the matter is still before the courts.
