INEC To Conduct Bye-Elections For 2 Vacant Seats.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled bye-elections for the Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State for February 21, 2026.

The announcement followed an extraordinary meeting of the commission on Monday, during which INEC also reviewed arrangements for the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections slated for the same date.

According to the commission, the decision aligns with Section 116 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which authorises INEC to conduct bye-elections whenever vacancies arise in state legislative houses.

The Ahoada East II seat became vacant after the resignation of its former representative, while the Khana II constituency was left without representation following the death of its lawmaker.

INEC confirmed that the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly has officially communicated the existence of the two vacancies, clearing the way for the electoral process to begin.
