Amid the renewed confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, and his estranged political protégé, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, some influential political figures in the state have openly declared their support for the governor.
Those expressing support include Prince Uche Secondus, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, Alabo Abiye Sekibo, and former Governor, Sir Celestine Omehia.
Governor Fubara disclosed their position on Thursday during the 2026 New Year State Banquet held at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the event, Fubara said that distinguished “leaders who sat with us today signal their firm support not only for this administration but also for President Bola Tinubu”.
The Minister of the FCT had recently fallen out with the governor, months after President Bola Tinubu facilitated a peace settlement between both parties.
In recent developments, the former governor indicated that his successor had deviated from what was agreed during the peace accord.
Wike maintained that agreement is agreement, signalling an attempt to thwart the governor’s re-election bid.
