Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has denied what he described as “planted mischievous media reports” claiming that he had left the PDP for the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Wabara appealed to PDP supporters and the general public to ignore the “fake and misleading social media reports” which alleged that he had defected to the ADC.
The PDP BoT Chairman issued the clarification following social media claims that he was among South East leaders who travelled to Enugu on December 31 to receive former President Olusegun Obasanjo when he reportedly endorsed the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, for the 2027 presidential election.
However, dismissing the reports as “fake and mischievous”, Wabara clarified that the photograph of him with Obi and Obasanjo, along with other Igbo leaders currently circulating on social media, was unrelated to the alleged Enugu event.
Senator Wabara, who insisted that his loyalty to the PDP had never been in doubt, explained that the photograph in question was an old image of Igbo leaders with Obasanjo during a visit to his Abeokuta residence last year.
He added that the portrait of Obasanjo visible on the wall in the background of the photograph confirmed that it was taken inside the former president’s residence and not in Enugu.
He accused his critics of sponsoring the “fake news” in an attempt to smear his image, but maintained that such efforts would not succeed.
According to him, “The same disgruntled elements who have been contracted to destroy the PDP are behind this mischievous media campaign. But no amount of lies can change the fact that I am still very much in the PDP.
“I’m not only in the PDP but committed to seeing that the PDP bounces back as the ruling national party in 2027,” Wabara said.
Senator Wabara vowed that no level of blackmail would deter him from upholding the rule of law and due process in the effort to restore the PDP as a strong and credible political party in the country.
