Obi Still With Labour Party, Says Southwest National Chairman.

The South-West National Chairman of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arambambi, has said that former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has not left the Labour Party despite his recent association with the African Democratic Congress.

Arambambi spoke while reacting to growing claims that Obi has defected to the ADC.

He described Obi’s involvement with the party as temporary and insisted that there has been no formal exit from the Labour Party.

According to him, Obi remains a member of the party and has only stepped aside briefly.

He also addressed reports that the tenure of the Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, has ended.

Arambambi said such reports were wrongly linked to a Supreme Court judgment and insisted that no court in Nigeria ruled that Abure’s tenure had expired.

He maintained that the judgment being cited does not contain any statement removing Abure from office.

Arambambi said anyone claiming otherwise should provide proof, adding that misrepresenting a Supreme Court ruling amounts to a serious offence.

He stressed that the Labour Party leadership remains intact and legally recognised.

Speaking further on Obi’s political status, Arambambi said Obi has not followed the path taken by other politicians who recently moved to the ADC.

He explained that several well-known figures openly resigned from their former parties, publicly announced their moves, and collected ADC membership cards.

He noted that Obi has done none of these.

He challenged critics to show evidence that Obi formally joined the ADC, saying there is no record of Obi resigning from the Labour Party or collecting an ADC membership card.

For this reason, he maintained that Obi is only on a temporary political pause.

Arambambi also warned that the Labour Party would not allow itself to be used as a platform for political return plans.

He said the party would protect its identity and direction and would not be reduced to a tool for personal ambitions.

He further claimed that Peter Obi and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, are not preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election.

According to him, their current actions are not aimed at seeking power but are part of wider political manoeuvres that could affect governance.

Is he talking about the LP of the Abure era ( now defunct) where he is the South West Vice or the original LP led by Sen. Nenadi Usman of which he has no part? Well, Obi has already moved but still can through the Obidients coalesce with the LP original for the he elections.

I believe only he knows the LP he was talking about here.
