Abia State Governor Alex Otti has confirmed that there were two separate kidnap attempts last week in Olokoro and Ubakala, both in Umuahia South Local Government Area.
The incidents involved men suspected to be cattle herders, who fled when Abia State Homeland Security personnel intervened.
Governor Otti said the police are handling the situation and that measures are in place to prevent similar events from happening.
He described the cases as isolated and under control.
Governor Otti also reviewed several initiatives across the state, including the reconstruction of Enyimba Hotel, which is partly owned by the Abia State Government.
He explained that the government owns 80 percent of the property, while 20 percent belongs to families of Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA) members who invested in the hotel.
Otti said the state is open to selling shares to interested investors, while Radisson Blu, the international hotel management company, will oversee operations and ensure the hotel meets five-star standards.
On environmental concerns, Governor Otti addressed issues surrounding the Aba River, which has been polluted with refuse.
He announced plans to dredge the river to restore proper flow and create a leisure and entertainment center along its banks.
He warned companies that dumping waste into the river is illegal and punishable, noting the importance of proper waste treatment for public health.
Regarding the airport project started by the previous administration, Otti said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating funds linked to the project.
He expressed confidence that the state will recover any misappropriated money in due time.
