Actor, Shine Rosman has expressed concern over what she describes as the alarming normalisation of sexual harassment in Nigeria, especially in public spaces in Lagos.
Speaking during an interview with Tolu Afilaka, the actor claimed that har+ssment has become so frequent that it is often ignored or treated as a normal occurrence, particularly in busy areas like Yaba.
She criticised the lack of accountability and questioned the safety of women in the country, arguing that public inaction could encourage more severe forms of abuse in private settings.
According to her:
“Do you know how bad s+xual har+ssment is in Lagos. Like go to Yaba, as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately. Everybody hearing this knows that it is true. But till today, nothing is being done about it. You’re walking in Yaba and people are touching you inappropriately and nothing will happen.”
She further questioned the absence of strong intervention from authorities:
“If the government is not going to do anything, is it not ok for us to defend ourselves?”
Rosman also described the issue as deeply normalised in society:
“In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, s+xual har+ssment is still one of the most passive things.”
She added a concern about escalation if such behaviour goes unchecked:
“If a man can s+xually h+rass you, casually, during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?”
Her comments highlight ongoing concerns about women’s safety and the enforcement of laws against s+xual har+ssment in Nigeria.
