Speaking to journalists after the media tour of Ojaja Mall, the CEO, Princess Adebimpe Ogunwusi took time off to speak on everything that has to do with the legacy recreation and leisure centre beyond royalty, class and exquisite shopping centre in Lagos.
She
also spoke on the royal vision for Ojaja Mall and how their upbringing has
affected all the businesses attached to the Ooni of Ife.
On building Ojaja Mall Lagos: “With
the grace of Almighty God, and with a dedicated team of engineers and
architects, we delivered this project in two and a half years. Ojaja Mall sits
on 18,000 square meters of land, with 295 shops, suites, cinemas, and lifestyle
facilities. It was a labour of prayers, hard work, and faith.”
On inspiration behind the project: “Kabiyesi’s
vision has always been about creating jobs and opportunities. Ojaja Mall Lagos
is the headquarters of Ojaja Pan-Africa, the mother of all Ojaja enterprises.
It’s not just about profit — it’s about building people and creating wealth.”
On challenges as a woman in construction: “I
don’t see myself as a woman when I work. I see myself as capable. Whatever a
man can do, I believe I can do better. My engineers call me ‘Mama,’ and I was
always on site, climbing, supervising, and proving that strength is not
gendered.”
On growing up with the Ooni: “He
is my elder brother, and we fought like normal siblings. We weren’t raised as
princes and princesses — my mother didn’t believe in that. We had a normal
childhood, quarrelling over food and chores. It was only after my mother passed
that the royal protocols began.”
On community impact: “We employ thousands
through Ojaja Mall. From carpenters to plumbers, interior designers to shop
attendants, everything here is proudly Nigerian-made. Kabiyesi believes in
promoting Nigeria and creating opportunities for people to thrive.”
On the Ojaja brand: “Ojaja Pan-Africa is
about unity and growth. The supermarket, Ojaja More, was inspired by the
childhood song: ‘The more we are together, the happier we shall be.’ That’s
the spirit behind the brand — togetherness, prosperity, and expansion beyond
Nigeria.”
On
sustainability and challenges: “Maintenance is key. I lived in Canada for nine
years, and I brought that discipline home. We run 24-hour operations with
synchronized generators and Band A electricity supply. It’s demanding, but
excellence requires consistency.”
Final
thoughts: “This
mall is more than a building. It’s a testimony of faith, family vision, and
Nigeria’s potential. Kabiyesi is my brother, but when it comes to work, I see
him as my chairman. Together, we are building a legacy that will outlive us.”
