Pregnant Woman Freed After ₦77m Ransom In Kaduna.

A pregnant woman, Mrs Love Marcus, who was abducted from Gidan Waya community in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has regained her freedom after her family and others linked to the case reportedly paid about ₦77 million to secure her release and that of other victims.

She was taken during a violent attack on her community where her husband was also killed. Despite her condition, she was moved away by the armed group along with other residents who were also seized during the incident.

Her case was later shared on Friday, May 8, 2026, during a victims’ support and trauma counselling programme held in Kaduna. The event was organised under the theme “The Rod and the Staff” by the Christian Awareness Initiative of Nigeria in collaboration with Palace Alliance at ECWA Kaduna South DCC, Angwan Yelwa.

A Catholic cleric, Rev. Fr. Yakubu Jerry of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, spoke on her situation on her behalf. He said she was pregnant at the time of the abduction and lost her husband during the attack, leaving her in deep shock and distress.

He also described the harsh movement through forest paths during captivity, where victims struggled with exhaustion and were forced to continue moving despite their condition.

According to him, the abductors first received about ₦40 million before additional demands were made. The total amount spent on ransom and related costs later rose to around ₦77 million before the victims were eventually released.

One of the most difficult parts of her experience was that she gave birth while still being held in captivity before her eventual freedom.
