The defendants, identified as Danladi Usman, 23, and Nasir Ahmed, 26, are facing charges bordering on criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.
The presiding magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, declined to take their pleas on Tuesday, citing the court's lack of jurisdiction to hear the matter.
He subsequently ordered that the defendants be remanded in a correctional centre and directed the police to forward the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned until July 26 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired with another suspect who is currently at large to carry out the abduction.
According to the prosecutor, the incident occurred on May 24 at about 6:30 p.m. when the suspects allegedly kidnapped two children from their parents' residence in Millennium City, Kaduna, with the intention of demanding ransom.
Leo said the suspects were arrested after vigilant neighbours alerted the police to the alleged kidnapping.
He added that the two abducted children were successfully rescued during the operation.
The prosecutor told the court that the alleged offences contravene Section 247 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2020 (as amended).
Under the provisions of the law, a person convicted of kidnapping is liable to the death penalty.
