Iyabo Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has revealed that her father's actual age may be older than what is recorded in official documents.
She made this known during an interview on The Morayo Show, where she explained that although the former Nigerian leader is expected to celebrate his 90th birthday next year based on official records, he believes he could actually be around 92 years old.
Iyabo said the difference in age is linked to how birth records were handled in rural communities many years ago. She explained that her father was born in Ibogun, a village in Ifo Local Government Area, where there was no primary school at the time.
According to her, children from the village had to walk to the nearby community of Olaogun to attend school because there was no school in Ibogun.
She said that during school enrolment, children were often assigned ages by comparing them with other pupils instead of using official birth records. As a result, the age recorded for her father at the time became his recognised age in all official documents.
Iyabo stated that her father has often said he will officially turn 90 next year, but believes he could be about two years older than that. She added that once an age is entered into official records, it usually remains unchanged throughout a person's lifetime.
