The funding will be provided through the State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme, a World Bank-supported initiative.
Deputy Governor Malam Mani Mummuni announced the approval on Tuesday in Gusau while inaugurating a free training programme for representatives from 158 communities who will oversee the first phase of project implementation.
According to Mummuni, Governor Dauda Lawal authorised the release of the funds to support projects in all 14 local government areas of the state. The initiatives will focus on key sectors, including healthcare, education, water supply, agriculture and drainage infrastructure.
He explained that Community Project Monitoring Committees (CPMCs), operating under the supervision of the CSDA, would be responsible for implementing and monitoring the projects.
The deputy governor said the intervention reflects the administration's commitment to improving living conditions in underserved communities by providing critical infrastructure and public services.
He urged members of the monitoring committees to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, stressing the need for transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources throughout the execution of the projects.
Mummuni added that the training would encourage greater community participation while promoting good governance and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently for the benefit of local residents.
Speaking at the event, CSDA General Manager Umar Nakwada said the participants were drawn from Community Project Monitoring Committees established to supervise projects in their respective communities.
He noted that the training was designed to equip committee members with the knowledge required for effective project implementation and resource management.
Nakwada disclosed that the first phase of the programme, known as Batch A, covers 158 communities and involves projects valued at N3.2 billion. He also praised Governor Lawal for supporting initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods across the state and pledged that the agency would closely monitor every project to ensure successful delivery.
Also addressing participants, the State NG-CARES Coordinator, Mukhtar Ibrahim, said the programme was designed to improve access to livelihood support, strengthen food security and provide grants to poor and vulnerable households as well as small businesses.
He explained that NG-CARES focuses on three key areas: social and livelihood support, food security and agricultural value chain development, and the recovery of micro and small enterprises.
The training featured presentations on the duties of Community Project Monitoring Committee members, monitoring and evaluation, environmental safeguards, conflict resolution, procurement procedures and store management.
