The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to healthcare workers and the public following a nationwide removal of major drug products traced to a facility in Jos.
In a statement posted on its X account on Friday, the agency said it launched an enforcement operation on a company located in the Anglo Jos New Industrial Area after receiving reliable intelligence and conducting regulatory surveillance.
NAFDAC explained that its investigation uncovered that the firm had been manufacturing, selling, and distributing several pharmaceutical and regulated products without the required marketing authorisation.
During the operation, officials found a wide range of products at the site, many of which were being produced or circulated in clear violation of NAFDAC regulations.
The agency added that laboratory evaluation of some of the products revealed serious quality failures, raising major public health concerns.
According to NAFDAC, tests showed extremely low levels of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients in Linmoxyn (Amoxicillin) suspension and Linmoxyn (Amoxicillin 500mg capsules). The suspension recorded API values of 13.9 percent and 18.4 percent, far below acceptable standards, while the capsules contained only 48.3 percent API, confirming both as grossly substandard.
Other products discovered at the facility carried various NAFDAC Registration Numbers, despite not meeting regulatory requirements.
The agency stressed that medicines with low API pose significant dangers, including treatment failure, antimicrobial resistance, and potential harm to patients.
Products found included Linocloxin (Ampicillin 125mg & Cloxacillin 125mg) oral suspension 100ml, Linromycine (Erythromycin) suspension 100ml, Linocillin (Ampicillin) suspension 50ml, Linmoxyn (Amoxicillin 125mg) suspension 60ml, Eurogyl (Metronidazole) suspension 50ml, Naflin Expectorant 100ml, Natacid 100ml, Navit-B Syrup 100ml, Fountain B-12 tonic 100ml and 200ml.
Other items included Vitamin C Syrup 100ml, Eurogyl (Metronidazole) tablets in 10×10 blister packs, Eurogyl 1000-tablet packs, Euramol (Paracetamol) 1000-tablet packs, Euramox (Mebendazole 100mg) tablets, Linotrim (Cotrimoxazole) suspension 50ml, and Linoquine (Chloroquine Phosphate 80mg/5ml) syrup 60ml.
NAFDAC said its zonal directors and state coordinators had been instructed to intensify surveillance and clear all substandard products across the country.
The agency encouraged distributors, retailers, health workers, and caregivers to remain alert within the supply chain to prevent the sale or use of the affected items.
It also urged healthcare providers and consumers to promptly report any suspected cases of substandard or falsified medicines or medical devices to the nearest NAFDAC office.
