2027: Akpabio Endorses Popular Lawmakers For Second Term.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has publicly supported his nephew, Ukpong Akpabio, for a second term in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as the 2027 elections approach.

The announcement was made during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Congress in Essien Udim, where party chapter executives were elected.

Ukpong Akpabio, a lawyer representing Essien Udim State Constituency, won his seat in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but joined the APC in June alongside Governor Umo Eno.

He previously served as special assistant on general duties to Akpabio during the latter’s tenure as governor from 2007 to 2015.

In the same event, Akpabio also endorsed Patrick Umoh, the federal lawmaker representing Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, and Obot Akara Federal Constituency, for a second term in 2027.

He referenced past representatives from Obot Akara and explained that the area should maintain its rotation in line with informal zoning practices, which aim to give fair opportunities to different local government areas.

Akpabio noted that after Umoh completes his second term, Essien Udim will take the next turn to hold the federal seat, and warned that no one from Obot Akara should oppose this arrangement in the next cycle.

He said the agreement is a principle of fairness, ensuring that every local government area gets its turn in elected offices in Akwa Ibom.
