The Abia State Government has dismissed claims that Governor Alex Otti filed a case against the Federal Government at a so-called World Court over the approval of a cargo airport in Aba.
The state government reacted on Monday, February 10, 2026, following reports spreading on social media that the governor had taken Nigeria to an international court over the airport project.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the government said no such case exists anywhere.
He stated that Governor Otti has not filed any suit, petition, or complaint before any international court against the Federal Government, either on the Aba airport or on any other issue.
The commissioner described the report as false and misleading, saying it was deliberately put together to deceive the public.
He explained that aviation approvals in Nigeria are handled through clearly stated national rules and government agencies, adding that the Abia State Government has never considered taking such matters outside the country.
Kanu also dismissed claims that the governor accused the Federal Government of targeting or denying rights to any ethnic group.
He said the allegation was untrue and designed to stir ethnic tension and link the governor to claims he never made.
According to the statement, Governor Otti believes in national unity, lawful engagement, and cooperation with federal authorities, rather than spreading false stories or stirring division.
The government said the report appears to be part of a smear campaign by political opponents who are uncomfortable with the reforms and projects currently being carried out in the state.
It added that those behind the story have chosen falsehood after failing to challenge the government’s actions with facts.
The Abia State Government urged the public to ignore the report and advised media organisations to confirm information from official and credible sources before publishing.
It also warned that it may take action against individuals or platforms that spread false information capable of causing tension or reducing public trust.
The statement added that Governor Otti remains focused on rebuilding Abia State through proper procedures, steady engagement with relevant federal bodies, and development projects meant to benefit both the state and the country.
