Aiyedatiwa Denies Role In APC Meeting Attack.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has rejected allegations linking him to the violence that disrupted a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State.

The incident happened on Tuesday at the party’s secretariat in Akure, where the state chairman, Ade Adetimehin, and other party leaders were attacked and injured.

The victims are currently receiving treatment in hospital.

Those affected accused the governor of backing the hoodlums who invaded the meeting venue.

The attackers were said to be suspected members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, who allegedly stormed the gathering and caused chaos.

In his reaction, Aiyedatiwa distanced himself from the violence and said the trouble was caused by miscreants who had no reason to be at the party secretariat.

He explained that the meeting initially planned for 10 a.m. was not properly arranged.

According to him, he had asked that the time be shifted to 2 p.m. so that he, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and the Deputy Governor could attend.

The governor stated that he is usually present at official stakeholders’ meetings alongside top government officials. He recalled that earlier in the year, a stakeholders’ meeting was held in January before the state anniversary, with representatives from all local governments in attendance.

He described the Tuesday gathering as sudden and linked to the ongoing ward and local government congresses within the party.

Aiyedatiwa further revealed that he received information about tension and the presence of suspected troublemakers around the secretariat before the meeting. He said he immediately instructed that the Commissioner of Police be contacted.

He also personally reached out to the police authority to ensure that security personnel were sent to secure the venue, as he intended to participate in the meeting.

The governor maintained that he has no conflict with the party congresses and insisted that the violence was the result of internal disagreements among supporters of different aspirants.

He described the earlier gathering that turned violent as a meeting of rival groups and not an official stakeholders’ session recognised by the party leadership.
