The Anambra State House of Assembly has started actions to recall Bernard Udemezue, the lawmaker representing Ayamelum Constituency, whose suspension is due to end soon.
Udemezue was first suspended in August 2025 for three months after sharing content on social media that the Assembly said was damaging.
He had claimed that his constituency was being neglected in terms of constituency allowances.
Following the post, the House considered a report by its Committee on Ethics and Privileges, which accused him of unparliamentary conduct, and passed a resolution suspending him.
When Udemezue did not fully comply with the House’s directives during his suspension, an additional three months were added, beginning November 26, 2025.
This extended suspension is set to end on February 26, 2026.
During Tuesday’s plenary, the Speaker of the House, Somtochukwu Udeze, instructed the Committee on Rules, Ethics and Privileges to review Udemezue’s suspension and prepare for his possible recall.
The Committee, led by Majority Leader Ikenna Ofodeme, was asked to assess how well Udemezue followed the House’s resolutions and report back on the next sitting.
Plenary was later adjourned and will resume on February 19, 2026.
