Army Kills Five Insurgents, Rescues Three Children In Borno.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued three children who were taken by insurgents two months ago and killed five suspected terrorists during an operation in Borno State.

The development was made known on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba. He said the successes were recorded during operations carried out between February 20 and 21, 2026, across parts of the North-East.

According to him, soldiers from Sector 1 encountered suspected members of JAS and ISWAP around Sabsawa village in Borno State while on a fighting patrol. A gun battle followed, and the troops overpowered the insurgents. Five of the fighters were killed during the clash, while others fled the area. The soldiers later searched the location as part of follow-up action.

In a separate mission under the same sector, troops stationed at Ngurosoye rescued three abducted children during a patrol around Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. The children were identified as Abba Abba, aged 12, Fatima Abba, aged 8, and Aisha Abba, aged 6.

Initial findings showed that the children were taken about two months ago along the Gubio axis by suspected terrorists and later moved to Bula-Daloye. After their rescue, they were handed over to the Nigeria Police for further steps.

The statement also revealed that an 18-year-old suspect, Abubakar Abubakar, surrendered to troops in Geidam, Yobe State. He is currently in custody and undergoing profiling.

Lt. Col. Uba said troops across different sectors of Operation Hadin Kai have continued offensive and stabilisation missions with the support of hybrid forces, local vigilantes, and hunters. He added that the operations were carried out without major setbacks and that monitoring activities are still ongoing in the theatre.

The military leadership praised the troops for their effort and fighting spirit and assured that operations against insurgents in the North-East will continue until peace and stability return to the region.
