As Muslim Now, I Did Not Learn Islim Till I Was 18yrs Old – Babatunde Fashola.

Mr. & Mrs. Fashola.

Former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works under former President Muhammadu Buhari. Babatun Raji Fashola has said come out to speak on issues that had to do with family, marriage and intimacy in marriage.

With his wife, Dame Abimbola Fashola, were special guests on a talk-show, “The Morayo Show” where they opened up freely to dissect issues we all thought they would not be able to share.

From marriage to family to rumours and how they both dealt with the issues as they came between them.

According to him, sometimes when I fail to apologize when I am in the wrong, my wife says, "The devil is worrying you; I will pray for you", stating that he grew up as a Christian, not a Muslim. His mother and grandparents were Anglican Christians, and he attended church every Sunday at Saint Jude Anglican Church in Ebute-Meta.

He said he did not learn about Islam until he was 18 years old. Later in life, he converted to Islam and when questioned why his wife married an "unbeliever," Fashola explained that the term "unbeliever" holds different meanings in different religions.

In Islam for instance he said, individuals who are not Muslims may be referred to as unbelievers, but this depends on religious beliefs and understanding.

Regarding his marriage, he said that every marriage experiences arguments, and his own marriage is not perfect, acknowledging that many times he is the one at fault but one-thing is sure, “our children have never witnessed us fight”.

When arguments arise between us and the children are present, we immediately stop and we not report our problems to family members. We settle issues privately and peacefully.

On her part, Dame Abimbola Fashola shared how she handled a rumor about her husband.

Speaking also, she said her sisters once informed her that people were claiming that her husband had another family in Magodo and was frequently seen there, she remained calm and, following what she believed was guidance from the Holy Spirit, decided to discuss the matter directly with her husband. When she asked him, he clearly told her the rumor was untrue, explaining that the only times he visited Magodo frequently were during political campaign periods.

She said that in their marriage, they maintain open communication about everything and due to their strong communication and trust, she felt comfortable asking him directly instead of believing rumors.
