Atiku Condemns El-Rufai Arrest Attempt.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the move to arrest former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as a disgrace to the country.

The incident reportedly happened at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja shortly after El-Rufai returned from Cairo, Egypt, on an Egypt Air flight.

Officers of the Department of State Services were said to have tried to detain him upon arrival.

Atiku visited El-Rufai at his Abuja residence on Thursday to show support.

During the visit, he said there was no reason for security agents to treat a former minister and governor in such a manner.

He maintained that if there were issues to address, the proper step would have been to allow him return home and then invite him through lawful means.

According to him, the action taken against El-Rufai reflected poorly on the country.

He said a society that claims to follow the rule of law should not handle matters in a way that creates public embarrassment. He also assured that he would stand with El-Rufai and other citizens who respect the law.
