Bello El-Rufai, the lawmaker representing Kaduna North in the House of Representatives and son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has spoken about rumours linking him to a possible exit from the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The discussion started after a social media user advised him to leave the APC for the African Democratic Congress.
Reacting to the comment, Bello made it clear that he would not make political decisions because of online pressure.
He said his mandate came from the people of Kaduna North who voted for him, and that their choice remains his priority.
Bello recalled his victory in the 2023 National Assembly election where he polled 51,052 votes to defeat the candidate of the People's Democratic Party, Samaila, who scored 34,808 votes.
He also said that he won in all 12 wards of Kaduna North, describing it as a record in the constituency.
According to him, the seat belongs to the thousands of constituents who elected him and not to social media critics.
He stated that the only condition under which he would consider leaving the APC would be if his father, whom he calls Mallam, personally asked him to do so.
In that case, he said he would resign his seat immediately and could even choose to remain non-partisan.
He added that he enjoys strong support from his constituents.
Bello further told the social media user that he was ready to offer ten million naira if the person could convince the 51,052 voters who gave him the mandate to support his defection.
He questioned whether there was any platform that could truly confirm such a shift in support.
While speaking about loyalty, Bello reaffirmed his respect for his father but also declared his commitment to the Kaduna State government under Governor Uba Sani, whom he described as his boss.
He ruled out any action that would amount to disloyalty to the governor.
He explained that after recently attending a public function with his father, he went straight to an APC caucus meeting in Kaduna with the Speaker and the governor.
He described the move as deliberate and meant to show where he stands politically.
Bello also mentioned that being in the APC has given him the chance to work with top public officials, including the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso.
On political conduct, he said he would never openly oppose the governor or take steps against him, adding that such behaviour goes against his sense of honour.
