Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said he has no present plan to run for any political office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He made this known on Friday during an interview with BBC Hausa, where he explained that although he cannot predict what may happen in the future, he is not preparing to contest any position at the moment.
He stated that politics can change quickly, but his current focus is on working towards removing the administration of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
El-Rufai said he played a part in helping Tinubu come into office and believes he also has a duty to work against the government now that he feels it has not met expectations.
According to him, political activities ahead of 2027 are just starting, and he believes those in power are aware of what he can do politically.
Speaking further, the former governor dismissed claims that he has a personal dispute with President Tinubu.
He explained that their differences are based on direction and goals, not personal issues.
He said the vision he had when supporting the party is different from what is happening now, adding that when political goals no longer align, people can go separate ways without conflict.
El-Rufai also said he has never had close political dealings with Tinubu outside their time together in the All Progressives Congress during the period when former President Muhammadu Buhari contested and won the election.
He noted that Tinubu contributed to that victory but maintained that their relationship was not personal.
On his successor in Kaduna State, Uba Sani, El-Rufai described him as his political son.
He denied reports of any serious quarrel between them, saying that while their political directions may not be the same at the moment, they are not enemies.
He added that politics often involves disagreements, but such disagreements should not be turned into personal battles.
According to him, politicians may clash at one point and later settle their differences. He advised supporters not to take sides during political disputes, noting that alliances can change.
El-Rufai also spoke about the emerging coalition ahead of 2027.
He admitted that he had previously opposed some individuals who are now part of the movement but said the situation in the country calls for unity.
He stated that former rivals must forgive one another and work together in what he described as an effort to rescue Nigerians from hardship, unemployment and economic struggles.
