Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved the appointment of a new Secretary to the Rivers State Government and a new Chief of Staff at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The announcement was made on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.
In the statement, Dagogo Wokoma was named as the new Secretary to the State Government, while Sunny Ewule was appointed as the new Chief of Staff.
The statement explained that both appointments take effect immediately.
It also stated that the swearing-in ceremony for the two officials would take place at 2pm at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Port Harcourt.
No official reason was provided for the removal of the former office holders.
The new Secretary to the State Government replaces Benibo Anabraba, while the new Chief of Staff takes over from Edison Ehie.
Ehie’s role had drawn attention in recent months following the political tension in the state.
The situation became more serious after a crisis broke out between the governor and his former political ally, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The crisis led to an impeachment move against the governor by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
However, the action was halted after the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, who stepped in to calm the situation and encourage peace between the parties involved.
Following the President’s involvement, the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, announced during plenary that the impeachment process against the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, had been withdrawn.
Before these latest appointments, Governor Fubara had already dissolved his cabinet, which included eight commissioners, and also relieved all his Special Advisers of their duties.
