Fubara Sends Commissioner List To Rivers Assembly.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly forwarded a list of commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and approval, in what appears to be a fresh step toward restoring stability in the state’s political space.

A source close to the government disclosed that the list was submitted on Friday.

This came a few days after the governor dissolved the State Executive Council and removed all Special Advisers from office.

The action followed months of tension between the executive and the lawmakers.

The latest move is believed to be connected to the peace efforts led by President Bola Tinubu between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The political dispute between both camps had created deep divisions within the state government and the Assembly.

The source said the list was sent to the Assembly under the leadership of Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

His leadership was earlier affirmed by the Supreme Court after the crisis that split the lawmakers into factions.

Lawmakers are expected to begin the screening and confirmation of the nominees in the coming days.

There are indications that some of the names on the list may be linked to Wike’s political group as part of efforts to rebuild trust among the different camps.

It was also gathered that some former commissioners who were considered effective in their roles could return to the cabinet.

Before dissolving the cabinet, Fubara had been working with only eight commissioners due to the prolonged disagreement with the Assembly.

The limited number of cabinet members affected the full operation of the executive arm.

There are also reports that the governor may appoint a new Chief of Staff as part of the ongoing reconciliation process initiated by the President.

In addition, Fubara is expected to commission the newly completed House of Assembly Complex.

The project will allow lawmakers to move from their temporary location to the new building.

The commissioning of the complex is seen as both a practical and symbolic step in easing tensions between the governor and the Amaewhule-led Assembly.
